YMCA Cheshire provides supported accommodation and a range of community services for children and young people who are experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, homelessness. Our work is trauma-informed, strengths-based, and focused on helping young people build independence, improve wellbeing, and move towards sustainable futures.
The Role
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Children and Young People's Practitioner to provide high-quality, person-centred support to young people aged 16–17 living within YMCA Cheshire's supported accommodation services.This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. One day may involve supporting a young person with budgeting and independent living skills, while another could involve delivering a cooking session, attending pathway meetings, or helping a young person access education, training, or employment opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver trauma-informed, person-centred support tailored to individual needs
Carry a caseload of young people and provide one-to-one key work sessionsDevelop and review personalised support and resettlement plans
Support young people with independent living skills including budgeting, cooking, shopping, health, hygiene, and tenancy readinessPromote safeguarding at all times and respond appropriately to risk and crisis situations
Advocate for young people and ensure their voices, concerns, and ideas are heardBuild positive relationships with external agencies, housing providers, and partner organisations
Deliver engaging one-to-one and group activities such as cooking, arts and crafts, and gardeningSupport access to education, employment, volunteering, and wellbeing opportunities
Maintain accurate records and contribute to effective team communication and service deliveryAbout You

Has experience working with children and young people in supported accommodation or similar settingsUnderstands safeguarding, trauma-informed practice, and risk management
Can build positive, trusting relationships with young people and professionalsHas excellent communication and organisational skills
