Cricket: Bacon's century in vain as Crewe lose first game of season

LEW Bacon struck a century but it couldn't prevent Crewe from falling to their first defeat of the North Staffs and South Cheshire campaign.
Bacon was in fine form anchoring Crewe's 198-08 by carrying his bat (102) through his side's 40 overs against Checkley 2nd XI on Saturday.
But it proved a tough afternoon in the field for the Vagrants as the visitors chalked off their target in 37 overs (202-3) helped by Matt Taylor's unbeaten 90.
