CREWE trampoline gymnast Bryony Page has added a world title to her Olympic success.

The 30-year-old secured the individual world trampoline title at the Trampoline, Tumbling and DMT Championships in Azerbaijan on Sunday.

It caps a stellar year for the GB gymnast, who as a youngster trained at the Wingate Centre in Wrenbury, where her family still live.

She won a bronze medal this summer in the Tokyo Olympics to follow up her silver at the Rio games in 2016.

The gymnast opted to restart her routine in the final in Baku, despite a 0.4 time penalty deduction. The judges went on to score her 56.235 points which was enough to edge out China's Cao Yunzhu (55.815), and Russia's Iana Lebedeva (55.8).

It is her first individual title at the event where she won team gold in 2013.

After becoming the first Briton to win an Olympic trampolining medal, Page spent a lengthy spell sidelined after undergoing two ankle operations. But she battled back to fitness to compete at Tokyo and before the games credited the support of British Gymnastics for helping her prepare during the pandemic.

"Through Covid year last year, I felt mentally quite strong working through things with a psychologist and have had amazing support from British Gymnastics and sport psychology," she said.

"I found that having that extra year gave me a bit of an advantage to recover from being injured earlier in the cycle – I got physically fitter and mentally stronger as well."
