Crewe Alex: season to kick off with visit from newly-promoted Cheltenham

By Gwyn Griffiths 27th Aug 2021

CREWE Alex have been handed an opening day fixture against League Two Champions Cheltenham Town.

The 2021/22 campaign kicks off on Saturday, August 7 and the Robins will be the opposition at the newly-named Mornflake Stadium.

The EFL released the fixture schedules for Championship, League One and League Two this morning (Thursday).

Crewe follow up the Cheltenham clash with visits to Portsmouth and Oxford before hosting Accrington, all in August.

Among some illustrious names arriving in South Cheshire next term will be Sunderland who pay a midweek visit on Tuesday, October 19 and Sheffield Wednesday, relegated from the Championship last term, on Saturday, December 11.

There could even be a visit from Wayne Rooney's Derby, rather than Wycombe on March 5, 2022, should the EFL take further sanctions against the Rams.

Crewe round off the season with a trip to Lincoln on Saturday, April 30, 2022.
