Crewe Alex: out-of-favour defender Daniels leaves for Walsall
CREWE boss Dave Artell has began pruning his squad in readiness for new arrivals with out-of-favour defender Donervon Daniels heading off for Walsall.
The 28-year-old joins the League Two outfit on a contract running until the end of the season.
The former Wigan, Blackpool and Luton man last featured in League One action for Crewe in the hefty home defeat (1-4) at the hands of MK Dons on October 30.
He did start the Papa John's Trophy tie with Rotherham on January 4 and while injury problems had hampered his availability, Daniels had dropped down the pecking order with the emergence of scholar Zac Williams and the return to form of Luke Offord.
Crewe mutually agreed to end his contract, which was due to run out in the summer, so he could link up with Matt Taylor's side.
Daniels, who made 30 appearances for Crewe, is set to feature for the Saddlers against Bradford City tomorrow.
He is unlikely to be the only departure from the Mornflake Stadium. Fellow defender Terrell Thomas has not played a league game since November 23, while midfielder Madger Gomes has faded from the first-team radar.
- Crewe's home Boxing Day clash with League One leader Wigan, which was postponed because of Covid in the visiting ranks, has been re-arranged for Tuesday, March 15.
