Crewe Alex Ladies through in Women's FA Cup after Black Cats success

By Gwyn Griffiths 26th Oct 2021

CREWE Alex Ladies are through to the next round of the Vitality Women's FA Cup after a morale-boosting win over Sunderland.

While their male counterparts suffered a chastening defeat at the hands of the Black Cats (0-4) last week the ladies enjoyed success at the Cumberland Arena on Sunday afternoon.

In a closely-contested match Cerys Griffin scored the winner with a 25-yard volley in the first half.

It proved to be an exciting and competitive game played in showery conditions.

Crewe goalkeeper Hannah Holloway showed a safe pair of hands and was awarded the man-of-the-match.

The Alex now host West Brom in the first round proper of the competition on November 14.
