DAVE Artell says he is still hopeful Tommy Lowery signs his contract offer after he restored the midfielder to his ranks.
Lowery came off the bench to score in last weekend's defeat (1-2) at Wycombe after Alex Chairman Charles Grant spoke to the player's agent.
The homegrown footballer had been placed under first-team exile after his solitary appearance at the end of August as it appeared there was little prospect of headway being made in contract talks.
After being confined to under-23's duty, Lowery will now be utilised by the club in the final year of his deal with the potential for a January sale perhaps being enhanced by his presence on the pitch, while the club stands to get nothing for him if he was to leave next summer at the age of 24.
Alex boss Artell said: "The contract off is on the table and hopefully Tommy will sign it. I'm always hopeful.
"I'm not sure anything has changed other than we've said 'we'll consider you'. Hopefully Tommy realises like the others before [the benefits of signing]."
Contrasting the problems of the Lowery contract, Artell has been able to highlight the value of more progressive negotiations with football agents after versatile defender Rio Adebisi signed a new two-year contract.
Adebisi shares the same agent as the departed Charlie Kirk and Artell pointed out: "He [the agent] has seen the fruit of Charlie's loins, so to speak.
"It was all amiable and done fairly quickly and it allows Rio to concentrate on his football. All parties were extremely happy to get it done."
Adebisi has shone at the back for Crewe on both flanks during the difficult opening months of the season, featuring in 14 games.
Artell added: "I'm delighted [at signed contract] as he's come on leaps and bounds. He's taken his opportunity with both hands and fully deserves his new contract and a few more bob in his pocket."
- It is free admission (via the Main Stand) at the Mornflake Stadium tonight as Crewe's youngsters start this year's FA Youth Cup campaign against Grimsby Town. Kick-off is 7pm.
