COUNCIL tax payers in Crewe are set for an increase of 4.43 per cent in the amount they pay towards policing in the county.
If the increase suggested by PCC (Police and Crime Commissioner) John Dwyer is ratified by the police and crime panel this Friday (February 4) that will mean an extra £10 a year on the police precept for a band D council tax payer.

ROADWORKS have started today (Monday) to prepare the way for a major highways scheme in Crewe.
Traffic light systems are in place on Middlewich Road and Minshull New Road, and a three-way system is in force on Smithy Lane, along with other small sections of traffic management, and all of these will stay in place for around four weeks.

COVID cases have started to rise again among schoolchildren in Cheshire East but the numbers are significantly lower than a few weeks ago.
Director of public health Matt Tyrer told a meeting of Cheshire East Council's health and wellbeing board: "With Omicron we saw the highest rates in Cheshire East that we had seen for the entirety of the pandemic. I think we peaked just before 2,000 per 100,000 and we have fallen quite sharply in the last couple of weeks of January but that has now stalled.
