A group of local young footballers will be flying the flag for grassroots sport at Crewe Alexandra's home game against Bromley FC on Saturday 11 October.

The Coppenhall Football Club Under 11s, made up of both boys and girls, will be doing a bucket collection outside and inside the Mornflake Stadium, Gresty Road, to raise vital funds for their team.

The children train and play at the Crewe Alexandra in the Community Centre in Shavington, where the money they raise directly supports their football journey.

Funds are used for essential kit and equipment, including footballs, cones, first aid kits, and pitch hire, meaning the money not only helps nurture local talent but also flows back into Crewe Alexandra Football Club's community facilities.

The team currently plays in the South Cheshire Youth League which is wonderful and is led by dedicated volunteer manager Steve McGowan, who runs the club alongside his wife Vicki and with the support of parents and guardians.

Team Manager, Steve, told Nub News: "Grassroots football is about giving children opportunities to play, learn and enjoy the game.

"Every penny raised goes straight back into supporting the team and keeping football economically accessible for all.

"We are really grateful to Crewe Alexandra for giving the kids this chance and to everyone who donates, whether in person at the stadium or online."

The Coppenhall U11s and their families are looking forward to meeting lots of super Alex fans on matchday and raising awareness of the value of grassroots football in our community so please look out for them in their bright football kit.
