Recognised as the world's leading ice cream vehicle manufacturers, Whitby Morrison will be appearing on BBC TV series 'We Are England' after filming finished this week.

The engineering company based at Crewe Gates Industrial Estate, have been in business since 1962, producing bespoke ice cream vans and associated vehicles for the global market.

Currently the business is run by Managing Director Stuart Whitby and supported by his two sons (Operations Manager) Ed and (Production Manager) Kris.

The engineering company was picked by the BBC documentary series as the representative of manufacturing for the North of England, telling the story of people that make the country tick.

On the BBC website, it describes the regionalised series: "Exploring the issues people care about, as told by them - from across England. A reflection of the opinions and changing face of the nation."

Other England business representatives include BMW Mini for the South and Barbour clothing for the North East.

Director of Operations at Whitby Morrison, Ed Whitby said: "We're in some decent company here."

What's more for the family-run company, whilst the series is regionalised, the BBC had to choose one story as the national focus for BBC One HD. They have chosen Crewe's Whitby Morrison ahead of the other England representatives.

Regarding the programme, Ed stated: "It's a brilliant half an hour piece that really champions who we are, who our people are, and what we represent for the town and region."

When asked what it means to be representating Crewe on TV, Ed answered: "We're incredibly proud of our Crewe heritage. That applies to both the ice cream industry and our roots as a family. Our history goes back many generations within the area.

"The Whitby Morrison team is predominantly made up of Crewe-people, and without them we wouldn't be recognised as the industry leader that we are today.

"95% of the world's Ice Cream Vans have come from Crewe, and when you consider Mornflake, Bentley and the many other successful businesses in the town, Crewe has so much to celebrate.

"It's a brilliant place to be, and it will continue to get better.

To have the chance to demonstrate this to the nation by showing a product they'll all be familiar with; it makes us very proud indeed." The episode is currently planned for broadcast on Monday 21st March at 8:30pm.
