Motorist dies after 3-vehicle crash near Willaston

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a three-car collision near Willaston last night (Thursday) in which a driver died and another motorist received serious injuries.

A man from Crewe has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving.

Haymoor Green Road off Newcastle Road in Blakelow was closed until 1.30 this morning after the collision between a Honda Accord, a Nissan Pixo and a Land Rover Discovery.

Two men and a woman were taken to hospital with serious injuries after being cut free by firefighters from the wreckage of the Nissan Pixo.

Sadly a 59-year-old man from Oakmere near Northwich, died in hospital. The female passenger in the vehicle remains in a serious but stable condition.

Two people travelling in the Land Rover Discovery, a man and a woman, are believed to have suffered minor injuries.

One fire engine from Nantwich and one from Crewe attended the scene at around 8.40pm and used specialist cutting equipment to release the casualties.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "Two casualties were trapped in one of the vehicles. The crews gave them emergency first aid before handing them into the care of the ambulance service."

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "A 38-year-old man from Crewe has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving. He is currently in custody."
