A MEMORIAL event for workers killed, injured or disabled by their work was commemorated in Queens Park.

Local Labour Party members took time out from their campaigning for the Crewe West council by-election to mark Workers' Memorial Day (which was on April 28) with a moment of quiet contemplation.

They said the day should be used to recall all those impacted by such issues, like the asbestos-related deaths over the decades in Crewe's railway industry, as well as dedicated health workers affected by the current Covid-19 pandemic.

Connor Naismith, Labour's candidate for the Crewe West seat on Cheshire East Borough Council said: "Workers' Memorial Day is a day to remember all those who have lost their lives at work or due to work-related injury. In a year where many have lost their lives on the frontline fighting the pandemic, this is all the more important to commemorate.

"We must remember them, and we must commit to building a better world of work in their memory going forward."
