CORONAVIRUS cases have almost vanished in most areas of Crewe - although one part of town has seen a rise in cases since lockdown restrictions were eased on April 12.

Positive tests across Cheshire East have also increased slightly over the last seven days as health officials had predicted as a consequence of more social mixing.

There were 14 people testing positive in the borough today (Thursday) and no deaths recorded .

But those 14 are part of an upward trend in positive cases over the last week, with numbers rising by four per cent, up to 77 over the seven-day period.

While Cheshire East's rolling rate of infection, a key statistical indicator, is down to 16.4 per 100,000 population in the seven days up to April 24, in the Sydney and Gateway area it has climbed to more than six times that figure to 105.5 - although the total number of cases remain relatively low at six.

But the area is currently the worst in Cheshire East for infections. And along with Crewe Mill Street (with 3 cases) it is the only area showing up in the government's interactive tracking map for the town.

Ten areas of Crewe had none or fewer than three cases registered up to April 24, which means that as a whole Crewe had less than 30 Covid cases in the latest recorded figures.
