The annual Wistaston Community events 'Fireworks Display' took place on Saturday 1 November at the Eric Swan Sports Ground/Brittles Pavilion off Church Lane, behind Wistaston Church Lane Academy, in Wistaston.

The event was organised by the Wistaston Community events team and supported by Wistaston Parish Council. Entry was by donation, with all profits going to local good causes.

There were candy floss and light up toys to purchase from the team at Wistaston events, with hot dogs and drinks served by 35th South West Cheshire (Wistaston) Scout Group.

The results of the children's best dressed competition, judged by Kate Blakemore, this year's Wistonian of the Year, and Poppy Edge, this year's Wistaston Rose Queen, were:

  • 1st prize - Hudson
  • 2nd prize - Albie
  • 3rd prize - Evalyn

The results of the children's pumpkin competition, also judged by Kate and Poppy were:

  • 1st prize – Autumn
  • 2nd prize – Esme
  • 3rd prize - Tamara

The fireworks display was set up and operated by Black Lab Events and Fireworks, who produced a 15-minute display of over 120 fireworks featuring aerial star shells, fan slices, dump cakes, comet candles and multi-shot cakes.

The Caddick Construction team, who are currently building the Crewe Youth Zone, worked with their supplier Alpine Hire (Warrington) to loan and install temporary lighting to improve access to the Brittles for the event.

The event was enjoyed by several hundred people during a dry autumnal evening.

A representative from Wistaston Community events told Nub News: "What a fantastic, enjoyable evening, thank you to all of our volunteers and thank you to everyone who came along to support this event.

"I think we can all agree that was one of the best displays we have seen."

The Wistaston Community events team always welcomes local residents to come along to their friendly monthly meetings and help them organise their five annual Wistaston village events, including next year's Fireworks event.

The next event is the Community Christmas Concert on Friday 5 December, starting from 6pm at St Mary's Church Hall, Church Lane.
