A vacant former Crewe supermarket chain store is set to open up as a new shop - just over a year since it was last used.

Sainsbury's Local, Edleston Road closed in March last year and is now being converted into a Lidos Extra convenience store.

On Thursday 9 March, Lidos Extra submitted a premises licence application to Cheshire East Council - seeking permission to serve alcohol from 7am to 11pm, Monday to Sunday.

Following the closure in March last year, Sainsbury's spokesperson, Rosalia Shindjoba told Nub News: "Our Crewe Edleston Road Local store has now closed.

"Customers can continue to shop with us at our nearby stores, including our Nantwich superstore.

"A decision to close a store is never taken lightly and is based on a range of factors.
