A vacant former Crewe supermarket chain store is set to open up as a new shop - just over a year since it was last used.
Sainsbury's Local, Edleston Road closed in March last year and is now being converted into a Lidos Extra convenience store.
On Thursday 9 March, Lidos Extra submitted a premises licence application to Cheshire East Council - seeking permission to serve alcohol from 7am to 11pm, Monday to Sunday.
The licensing application is on display on the Brooklyn Street Car Park entrance and on the wall in the alleyway towards Edleston Road.
Work has been going on at the Edleston Road site since February.
Brooklyn Street Car Park is now accessible to the public with new shutters placed on the front and back entrances.
On Tuesday 14 March, an on-site worker told Nub News: "The owner has employed us to clear the building and paint and decorate it.
"Electricians are expected on the site next week to carry out work. This will be a new shop."
Lidos Extra was incorporated in August last year.
It is classified on Companies House as 'retail sale in non-specialised stores with food, beverages or tobacco predominating.'
Sainsbury's' only Crewe store closed down after the lease ended for the Edleston Road building.
The Local store confirmed it was closing down in February 2022 with staff redeployed to another store.
Following the closure in March last year, Sainsbury's spokesperson, Rosalia Shindjoba told Nub News: "Our Crewe Edleston Road Local store has now closed.
"Customers can continue to shop with us at our nearby stores, including our Nantwich superstore.
"A decision to close a store is never taken lightly and is based on a range of factors.
"We understand this will be an unsettling time for those affected and we're supporting them in any way we can."
Representations towards the new Edleston Road Lidos Extra shop should be made by emailing: [email protected] - no later than Tuesday 6 April.
