UP CLOSE: The Station Pilot - a modern 'family-oriented' pub in Crewe
A 'family-oriented' Crewe pub is hosting a number of exciting Christmas events this winter - aiming to transform itself into a hub for events in the local area.
The Station Pilot, Jack Mills Way, Shavington, officially opened in 2018 - following a £3 million investment from Marston's Inns and Taverns.
The Crewe pub has a beer garden, children's play area, pool table, car park, free wi-fi access and disabled access - catering for up to 150 diners.
Nub News spoke to landlady of The Station Pilot, Abi Williams, who was confident the pub is on the up.
Abi told Nub News: "We are a family-oriented, community local and dog-friendly pub. We have live entertainment on lots of nights and are always community based.
"There are lots live music events at our pub this November. We also run a fortnightly quiz night."
Last summer, Abi took over The Station Pilot with her husband, Dan Williams.
Following weeks of training and moving in - they officially re-launched the pub in August 2021.
Abi said: "This is a Marston's brewery. I was previously working for the same family just outside Nantwich who have three pubs.
"I was working between the three venues for approximately 15 years - at my last pub I was general manager.
"One day I saw Marston's advertising The Station Pilot on Facebook. I applied for it off the cuff and didn't think too much about it.
"Last year, on my birthday I got a call asking for an interview here. Within two months I had moved in, re-branded and re-opened the pub."
The management team has planned an exciting schedule for families visiting the pub in the run-up to Christmas.
There will be a number of Christmas events taking place - including visits from elves and Mrs Clause.
Abi told Nub News: "In December, we are running lots of Christmas events. We are hosting music most weekends and have Santa's elves visiting us for a children's party with pizza.
"A lot of venues in the area are doing breakfast with Santa. For our pub, we thought pizzas with the elves would be a good idea for children.
"We are running a lot of Christmas party nights - including a local traders night.
"Local self-employed builders are invited to come in and have party with other tradesmen.
"We are also hosting live music on Christmas Eve. There is another Christmas children's pizza party planned with Mrs Clause coming in to play party games and more."
Located on Crewe Commercial Park and close to new housing developments - the management team believe customers will only rise from here.
Abi added: "I love this pub. It's modern and has a good chance of being the best community local in the area.
"There are a lot of housing developments taking place close to us with lots of new businesses arriving in this area of town.
"The Station Pilot is standing in good stead for the upcoming months and years - it's got a good opportunity to be the hub for local events."
The landlady was delighted The Station Pilot is now a sponsor of Crewe Nub News.
She added: "I like Crewe Nub News. I follow the site and newsletter. I read articles that pop-up on Facebook and know it is a well-read publication.
"It's exciting really as I'm always reading Nub News. To be a part of the site is a good opportunity."
The Station Pilot runs a special pizza night on Mondays, burger night on Tuesdays, curry night on Wednesdays and steak night on Thursdays.
It is open 12pm to 11pm (Monday to Sunday). To contact the pub, call: 01270 260560.
