Today (December 6), Cheshire Constabulary confirmed the incident to Nub News.

A spokesperson said: "Officers were called at around 4.45am on Monday (December 5), to Ridgeway Street, Crewe, following reports of a burglary at a shop.

"Patrols swiftly attended the scene and two men, aged 36 and 38, from Birmingham, were arrested on suspicion of burglary.

On Monday (December 5), McColls Ridgeway store manager, Laura Dolman, thanked customers for their patience as the shop was tidied.

A social media statement read: "On behalf of my team, I just wanted to say thank you to all our customers for your understanding, patience and support while we battled to get the store tidied and open for you today following the overnight break-in.

"Thankfully, none of the staff were in store at the time and as mentioned, two suspects were apprehended at the scene and taken into custody.

"As it's an ongoing investigation we can't comment any further but I'm just grateful to the kind person who dialled 999 and alerted the police as it was happening.

"Without a doubt their quick actions resulted in arrests being successfully and promptly made and prevented further stock loss to the store.

McColls, Ridgeway Street, reopened later than planned on Monday - after being tidied from the burglary (Cheshire Constabulary).

"We are working hard to ensure you are still able to purchase all the necessities you need from our shop with little impact to you but please bare with us as it may take a little longer at the moment."
