Two Haslington residents and two quizzers from Sandbach appeared on Channel 5's Eggheads.

The four – Kevin Dean and Ian Turpin from Sandbach and husband and wife Ian and Julie Clarke from Haslington – were on TV as 'Mrs Clarke's boys' at 6:30pm on Monday 20 March.

They met when they belonged to opposing quiz teams at the former Limes pub in Sandbach where they were all top scorers.

The quartet formed a quiz team and first appeared on Eggheads in 2014 when it was on BBC.

They applied to join the programme again when it switched to Channel 5 and recorded the March episode in Ealing near London last September.

Retired IT programmer and treasurer of Sandbach Clean Team, Mr Dean watched the programme.

Prior to its broadcasting, he said: "I can't say what happens but most of the questions were manageable.

"It's great fun and is one of the easiest ways to get on TV. I'd recommend anyone else to have a go."

Co-ordinator of Sandbach Clean Team, Mark Cook, also watched the Eggheads episode.

Before the programme, he told Nub News: "Kevin is a dedicated member of Sandbach Clean Team.

"We're all keeping our fingers crossed and hoping his team does the area proud."

Last year, the then Sandbach Mayor, Councillor Geraint Price Jones and his quiz team came face-to-face with the king of quizzes, Chris Hughes, from "Eggheads".

Mr Hughes, who hails from Coppenhall in Crewe, lost out to the Sandbach team, at a fundraising evening to raise money for Crewe-based Autism Inclusive.
