Two Crewe teenagers dropped from investigation following death of Nantwich boy

Cheshire Police officers have confirmed they have eliminated two Crewe 16-year-old boys from their investigation into the death of Nantwich teenager Jonty Evans.

Jonty Evans, from Baddington, was last seen on Friday 30 August, with his bag found on Mill Island on the morning of Saturday 31 August.

Sadly, the teenager was later found dead in the River Weaver near Riverside, Nantwich, on Sunday 1 September.

The teenagers from Crewe, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were initially arrested on Thursday 5 September on suspicion of section 47 assault (ABH), relating to the death of Jonty Evans (Cheshire Police).

Officers' enquiries remain ongoing and they are asking anyone who may have seen Jonty between 12.30am and 2.30am on Saturday 31 August in the Waterlode area of Nantwich to contact police.

The same goes for any members of the public who may have captured Jonty on CCTV, dashcam and ring doorbell footage during the same timeframe and to submit it directly via MIPP.

Information can also be passed on to Cheshire Police on 101 or via the website, quoting IML-1907900.

On Thursday 5 September, two teenagers, aged 16, from Crewe, were arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
