TV quiz star, 77, passes away at home in Crewe

Well-known TV quiz champion, Christopher Hughes, has passed away at his home in Crewe at the age of 77.
Famed for his appearances on the popular game show Eggheads from 2003 to 2023, Mr Hughes was a celebrated figure in the world of competitive quizzing.
Winner of Mastermind and International Mastermind in 1983, Mr Hughes was also crowned Brain of Britain in 2005.

Mr Hughes built a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable contestants in British quiz history.
Tributes have poured in from fans and fellow contestants, recognising his immense contribution to the quiz world.
The Eggheads programme wrote on social media: "It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Eggheads great Chris Hughes.
"Chris joined the show at the very start in 2003 and over the next 20 years gave us not only brilliant answers but very many laughs and happy memories.
"He loved being an Egghead and will be hugely missed by all his Eggheads family."
Gavin Palin Funeral Services has announced Mr Hughes' funeral will be held at 1pm on Friday 14 March at Crewe Crematorium Chapel.
