Thousands attend Armed Forces Day weekend with Chinook flyover in Crewe

Thousands enjoyed Crewe's Armed Forces Day weekend at Queens Park, with a special Chinook flyover taking place over the two-day event.

The annual Armed Forces Day took place at Queens Park on Saturday 29 June and Sunday 30 June.

This free-entry, two-day family day out honours service personnel from all branches of the armed forces as well as veterans.

A 27 Squadron 'Chinook' tandem-rotor, multi-role helicopter flew over Queens Park at 1pm on Saturday 29 June for the Armed Forces Day weekend event (Jonathan White).

It featured military vehicles displays, army displays, a classic car display, scooter display, recruitment support, memorabilia, charity stalls, an inflatable obstacle course, Stanworth's funfair.

In the arena there were dog displays by Cheshire K9 Training, and medieval re-enactments. 

There was a fly-past at 1pm on Saturday from a 27 Squadron 'Chinook' tandem-rotor, multi-role helicopter, based at RAF Odiham, home of the UK Chinook Force. 

Organisations represented included: Royal British Legion Crewe Branch 1350, Help for Heroes, Greater Manchester Wing Air Cadets, 100 (Nantwich) Squadron ATC, 95 (Crewe) Squadron Air Training Corps, The Cheshire Roll Of Honour and Crewe Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club.

The free-entry, two-day family day out at Queens Park honoured service personnel from all branches of the armed forces as well as veterans (Ryan Parker).

There was also Fishing For Heroes, Queen's Own Yeomanry, Royal Navy STEM Programme, Royal Air Force, Cheshire Constabulary, 167 Catering Support Regiment RLC, Army Recruitment, SSAFA Cheshire, and 4th Battalion The Parachute Regiment in attendance.

Numerous trade and charity stalls included CAFO rescue, Stoke Air Ambulance, Crewe Men in Sheds/Crewe Shedders, NHS Central Cheshire Talking Therapies and Mentell.

Refreshments were available to purchase from various food and drink outlets.

Visitors to Queens Park for Armed Forces Day weekend enjoyed a classic car display (Jonathan White).

Armed Forces Day in Crewe was sponsored by Crewe Town Council, Cheshire East Council, MOD, Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Clubs, Help for Heroes, Department for Work & Pensions, Stanworths Fun Fair and more.

The event itself, was organised by Mr Richard Stephenson Evans and Mr Steve Pragnall.
