A COMMUNITY journalist from Wistaston says it is important to document the hard work put in by many people in local life as he features in a prestigious county-wide magazine.

Jonathan White has been photographing and chronicling events in the area for the past 15 years. He has kindly made many of his fantastic photographs available to Nub News and shared his extensive knowledge.

Jonathan says he was bitten by the bug after attending the Wistaston Summer Fete and taking photographs of the event, which he supplied to the village newsletter, Roundabout, and the Crewe Chronicle.

In recent years he has become Nantwich Town's official photographer, a role he secured after first taking photographs at the Weaver Stadium as a fan before he stepped over the perimeter fence

This month his story of community journalism will feature on the coffee tables of the county as he is featured in an article in Cheshire Life.

In it Jonathan, who works as a learning mentor at Cheshire College – South & West, writes: "I love where I live and this desire to share my passion with others is where my role as a community journalist began, quite by chance 15 years ago.

"I was attending the annual Wistaston Summer Fete and I remember looking around and realising how much hard work had gone into the day; I truly believed it was worth documenting for posterity. I started making notes and taking some photographs before typing up a detailed article....

"Since that day, I have written more than 1,500 articles for local publications completely free of charge, and with the sole purpose of highlighting the fantastic events in the local area and the interesting stories of the people behind them.

"This very active hobby has seen me reporting on a wide and varied range of local events over the years including the Willaston World Worm Charming Championships, the Wybunbury Fig Pie Wakes and The Battle of Nantwich, to name but a few."

Without people like Jonathan local journalism would be very much poorer. Well done to him.
