TENNIS players were encouraged to wear white attire at a presentation day in memory of a long-serving league secretary from Wistaston.

The annual Slazenger South and Mid Cheshire Tennis League's event was renamed the 'John White Presentation Day' in honour of its former secretary, who passed away last July, aged 80.

The day, featuring presentations along with three tournaments, took place on the courts at Nantwich Tennis Club last Sunday.

Before and after his retirement from teaching, John held the secretary role with distinction for over 20 years.

His long service saw him receive the Honorary County Colours from the Cheshire Lawn Tennis Association.

Players wore a white item of clothing in memory of John and the League invited the White family to attend the event, where they were represented by John's youngest son, Jonathan.

The tournaments were two mixed and one men's open doubles, involving 28 players from a variety of local clubs.

The full list of 2020-21 winners were:

Summer Leagues 2021: Ladies Division 1 – Nantwich A, Ladies Division 2 – Congleton B, Ladies Division 3 – Congleton C, Men's Division 1 – Congleton A, Men's Division 2 – Congleton B, Men's Division 3 – Cuddington C, Men's Division 4 – Congleton E, Men's Division 5 – Nantwich D, Mixed Division 1 – Hartford A, Mixed Division 2 – Congleton C.

There were no knockout competitions during the summer as a precaution due to the pandemic.

The Stonelake Shield Sporting Award was awarded to Duncan Appelbe from Hartford Tennis Club for his hard work organising the summer leagues and their fixtures.

Winter leagues 2020 started but were not completed due to the pandemic. However, the winter 2021 season will take place unless there are government Covid restrictions.

Spring leagues were scrubbed due to the pandemic lockdown.
