Tennis players back on the courts at Hightown and Wistaston after lockdown

By Gwyn Griffiths 27th Aug 2021

TENNIS players in Crewe are back serving aces after grassroots sports was given the go-ahead to return.

Hightown Tennis Club and Wistaston Jubilee Tennis Club have reopened their gates for members after the lockdown ended, although there are strict guidelines in place issued by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), which includes no socialising before and after games.

At Hightown the Thursday morning club sessions have restarted from 10am and singles and doubles games are permitted.

Club President Bill Kynaston outlined the rules and reminded members to bring their own seating and refreshments.

The club wants members to:

  • Record the date, time and names of those playing.
  • Sanitise hands before and after play
  • Stay at least 2m apart from other members
  • Stay away if they have Covid symptoms

There is no need to book either of the club's courts, but if both courts are occupied the players should make arrangements to return when one is free.

At Wistaston the club's teams can return to Winter League action this weekend in the South and Mid Cheshire Tennis League.

But all members are reminded that entrance to the clubhouse should only be for emergency purposes such as to access keys or operate the floodlights.
