DOWN Syndrome Cheshire is appealing to the local community to take on a triple challenge.

The charity wants people to take part in three different sponsored activities and raise funds in the run up to World Down Syndrome Day (#WDSD2022) on Monday, March 21.

WDSD is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since

The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the third month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. This is why the Tri-Challenge should total 21 of three different activities. The reason the charity encourages supporters to wear colourful socks on #WDSD is because Chromosomes look like socks! In the past the Cheshire community has supported Down Syndrome Cheshire with the #WDSD awareness day by wearing colourful socks, selling sock biscuits and taking on sponsored challenges in previous years before the pandemic. This year, the charity is hoping that the community will yet again step up to help it return to pre-pandemic fundraising levels. Emma Grimster, of Down Syndrome Cheshire, said: "Whether you decide to walk 5k, run 5k and cycle 11k to clock up 21k or do 5 star jumps, 5 burpees and 11 squats, totalling 21 moves, don your colourful socks and get moving for our charity for WDSD 2022." The charity is encouraging local sports clubs or community activity groups to get involved. Sponsorship forms are available to download from the Down Syndrome Cheshire website here or register with the Tri-Challenge justgiving fundraising page at https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/Tri21challenge.
