RESIDENTS have formed an action group to protest about plans for a housing estate next to Crewe's busiest roundabout.
They want planners to look again as the design and layout of the housing proposed by David Wilson Homes on land off Sydney Road.
Town councillors have already raised their concerns to Cheshire East Council as they fear traffic "mayhem" at Crewe Green roundabout
The land is allocated for housing in Cheshire East's Local Plan and 44 of the 148 properties in the scheme are classed as affordable housing.
But residents say too many houses are being packed into the 4.52 hectare site and the development will lead to a loss of green space between Sydney and Haslington, while they also fear future air pollution issues.
A lack of off-street parking as well as a "poorly-sited" children's recreation space are also cited by the objectors, one of whom who has released a video (see above) of the late night noise from HGV traffic future homeowners may have to endure.
The residents have started a Facebook group called Green Spaces 4 Crewe Green and held a virtual meeting this week to discuss their opposition to the scheme.
Organiser Geraldine Lee-Treweek said: "It is quite a small piece of land and the houses are absolutely crammed in.
"It is the only bit of green space in the area and the pandemic has shown we need places like this to go to. I use it for walking my dogs as their is a public right of way.
"Around 160 residents have joined our Facebook group. There is a bigger issue here as this is about Cheshire East Council riding roughshod over public participation during Covid when people will struggle to organise opposition."
Nearly 70 residents have commented on the plans on Cheshire East Council's online planning portal.
Among those, one householder stated: "The traffic on the Haslington roundabout is absolutely horrendous. I do not know how it will cope with the additional volume of cars. It is an oval race track at the best of times and in the mornings it will be virtually impossible to get out of Crewe Road."
The plans are due to go Cheshire East's strategic planning board meeting on December 9.
