Staff made redundant at Crewe pie factory following 'comprehensive review'

Staff have been made redundant at a pie-making factory in Crewe, following a "comprehensive review" of operations by Compleat Food Group.
A source told Nub News 61 jobs have been cut at the former Wrights Food Group plant on Weston Road, acquired by Nottingham-based Compleat in December 2021.
The factory was Compleat's first acquisition following its creation earlier that year - through the merger of Winterbotham Darby and Addo Food Group by owner, PAI Partners.
The source said the 61 Crewe staff had been made redundant and replaced by agency workers.

However, Compleat has said the job losses weren't as high as has been claimed and no agency workers have been recruited.
In a statement, Compleat said: "Following a comprehensive review of the volume at our Crewe site, some redundancies have been made. The majority were voluntary redundancies.
"The review was required due to changing demand in a competitive trading environment and to ensure we can continue to support the long-term sustainable future of the site.
"We worked closely with all employees affected, including meeting on an individual basis to offer positions at other sites along with practical support."
After Wrights Food Group was taken over by Compleat, then-chairman, Peter Wright, said the merger would help secure the future of the brand, which had been built on "family values, quality, and service."
Wrights, which had been operating in Crewe since the 1990s. employed around 650 staff before Covid-19.
In 2019, the company completed a £7 million investment in its manufacturing facilities, producing more than 3.5 million savoury products each week.

The business was severely impacted by the Covid pandemic, particularly its airline catering division.
The redundancies in Crewe follow similar moves at Compleat's Tottle Bakery in Nottingham, with the company in negotiations over potential job cuts affecting more than 130 staff.
Despite the restructuring, Compleat Food Group has confirmed it remains committed to keeping the Crewe site open.
