'Proud' Crewe college students find success in respective sports

Students from Crewe's Cheshire College – South & West have demonstrated their dedication and skill across various sports, earning notable achievements.

Lewis Uttley, 18, Jack Milligan, 16, Kelsey Morrey, 17, and Sam Stanyer, 17, have all been successful in their respective sports while studying sports, fitness and personal training across the Crewe and Ellesmere Port campuses. 

In judo, Lewis achieved his first Dan black belt and ranked 8th in GB-60kg weight by the end of 2024.

He said: "Staying at the right weight has been a challenge, but with the support of my family, I've kept pushing forward."

Jack celebrated victory at the 2024 British Cadet Judo Championships in Coventry, triumphing in the 60kg category with five impressive wins.

He said: "It was a long day, but winning made it all worth it. Never give up, no matter how tough it gets."

Kelsey, a promising boxer, has already made waves in the sport, winning bronze medals at both the National Development Championships and the North West Regional Women's Winter Box Cup. 

She said: "With only a year of competing, winning these medals made me feel proud of myself. It helped me feel confident and showed me that with hard work, you can achieve your goals."

Kelsey's rigorous training schedule includes twice-daily sessions combining boxing, strength training, and conditioning. She is now determined to win the Manchester Box Cup.

In rugby, Sam has earned a spot on the Cheshire rugby team and had the opportunity to trial with Sale Sharks.

Despite facing injury setbacks, Sam's perseverance and dedication continue to fuel his success. 

He said: "It was incredibly rewarding to see all my hard work pay off.

"The trial with Sale Sharks is one of my favourite memories, and I can't wait to continue progressing."
