Actress Su Pollard visited Cheshire College - South & West's Crewe campus to meet art & design students and launch a live design brief for 2026's Crewe Lyceum Theatre pantomime.

Su, 76, who will star as the Godmother in this year's production of Sleeping Beauty, visited the college to meet Year 2 BTEC Level 3 Art & Design students and share the brief for the costumes and display props they will create for the production.

The partnership follows the success of students' costume work for last year's pantomime and a recent Crewe Lyceum Youth Theatre production, with the theatre once again inviting students to bring their ideas and creative skills to this year's show.

Deputy Principal and Deputy CEO of Cheshire College – South & West and Macclesfield College, Helen Nellist, said: "Working with industry partners like Crewe Lyceum gives our students the opportunity to take their skills beyond the classroom and experience what it is like to work on a live creative brief.

"Having Su Pollard visit the college and share the brief with our students makes this an even more exciting opportunity, and we look forward to seeing the ideas they develop for this year's production of Sleeping Beauty."

The project will give students the chance to develop their designs in response to a live industry brief, while gaining valuable experience of the creative process behind a major pantomime production.

Level 3 Art & Design student, Grace, said: "I'm looking forward to working with Su Pollard and Crewe Lyceum as it's a good experience to work with clients and understand what it's like to work in a creative industry.

"Working with a celebrity like Su is such a great opportunity to collaborate as she is so well known and it will give us an insight into what we may encounter in our futures."

"It means a lot to work with Crewe Lyceum as the project helped last year's students with their university portfolios."

The collaboration with Crewe Lyceum forms part of Cheshire College's wider approach to providing students with opportunities to work on live projects and apply their skills in professional settings.
