The Royal Saffron in Crewe town centre has built a reputation for serving authentic regional Indian cuisine, with Michelin-trained chefs drawing inspiration from coastal cooking, Mughlai traditions and classic Kerala recipes.

Based on Earle Street in the former Crown Hotel, the restaurant offers a menu going beyond standard curry house staples, focusing on dishes rooted in family recipes and regional cooking styles.

Nub News takes a look at three standout curries currently on offer at the 4.8/5 Google-rated Indian restaurant:

Standout: Konju Mango Curry (£12.99)

A traditional Kerala-style curry, the Konju Mango Curry features fresh prawns cooked with slices of raw mango in a rich coconut milk sauce.

The sweetness of the prawns is complemented by the tartness of the mango, while the coconut milk ties the flavours together with a silky finish.

It is a classic example of Kerala's coastal cuisine, where seafood, coconut and tropical fruit are regularly combined to create dishes packed with contrast and character.

Chef Mother's Chicken Curry (£9.56)

One of the most personal dishes on the menu, Chef Mother's Chicken Curry is inspired by the recipe that first sparked the chef's culinary journey.

Built around rich coconut milk and carefully balanced spices, the curry delivers warmth and depth rather than overpowering heat.

The coconut base creates a smooth, comforting texture, while the spice blend provides layers of flavour that develop with each bite.

It is a dish designed to showcase the importance of home cooking in Indian cuisine.

Goan Fish Curry (£12.65)

Drawing on the coastal cooking traditions of Goa, this fish curry combines a creamy tomato and coconut milk sauce with the sharpness of tamarind and raw mango.

The result is a distinctive balance of richness and acidity, with the souring ingredients cutting through the creamy base to create a bright, vibrant flavour.

Served with seasonal fish, it reflects the seafood-focused cuisine for which Goa is known.

Traditional accompaniments

The curries can be paired with a range of freshly prepared breads and Kerala specialities, including Plain Naan (£3.50), Chilli Coriander Naan (£3.90), Mango Coconut Naan (£3.90), Garlic Naan, Fig Coriander Naan (£4.35), Tandoori Roti (£3.25), Kerala Porotta (£1.95) and Kerala Appam.

Old Delhi Chaat (£4.75)

For starters, the Old Delhi Chaat offers a taste of India's famous street food culture, featuring crispy fried wafers topped with sweet, tangy and spicy flavours.
