Crewe eatery wins national 'best community café' award
By Ryan Parker 3rd Jun 2026
A Popular Crewe community café launched during the COVID-19 pandemic has been crowned the best in the country at a prestigious national awards ceremony.
GLO Café, located within the YMCA Cheshire facility on Gresty Road, took home the title of 'Best Community Café (Cheshire)' at the England's Business Awards 2026.
The award was presented at a glitzy ceremony held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Manchester Airport, on Sunday 31 May.
It marks a major milestone for the social enterprise, which recently celebrated its fifth anniversary.
The café was the brainchild of Fatima Perriman, Head of Business and Finance at YMCA Cheshire, launching on 4 May, 2021.
Since its launch, the café has grown into a vital community hub, serving thousands of cups of coffee and providing a safe, welcoming space for local residents.

But GLO Café is more than just a place to grab a Full English or a Deliveroo takeaway.
As a social enterprise, every penny of profit goes directly back into funding YMCA Cheshire's essential services, including housing, mental health support, and youth programmes.
The café also operates as a live training environment, offering volunteering roles to YMCA service users and vulnerable adults, helping them build confidence and gain qualifications in hospitality.
Fatima told Nub News: "Winning Best Community Café is an incredible honour and a proud moment for everyone connected to GLO Café.
"What started as an idea during a challenging time has grown into a thriving community space that creates opportunities, brings people together and supports the wider work of YMCA Cheshire.
"This award is a reflection of the passion, dedication and hard work of our staff and volunteers, as well as the loyalty of our customers and supporters who have been part of our journey over the last five years."
The Gresty Road venue has become well-known in Crewe for its affordable menu and its popular free monthly community meals held every third Friday of every month.
GLO Café hosts Soirée' events which holds on the first Friday of every month. The £20-a-head BYOB fine-dining evenings give young people the chance to work in a formal restaurant setting while raising further funds for the charity.
A Greek-themed Soirée is also set to take place on Friday 5 June.
The national award win has been met with an outpouring of support on social media from the Crewe community.
One regular customer saidL "This is the most wonderful cafe. We always get the warmest welcome and my small children are made to feel special by the staff. A little gem in Crewe."
GLO Café is open Monday to Friday from 7am to 2pm, and Saturdays, 9am to 3pm.
