Cheshire Police seized multiple illegal e-bikes, e-scooters and recovered a stolen car, following a road safety day of action across Crewe.

On Friday 23 May, officers from the Eastern Problem-Solving Team, with support from the Constabulary's Bike Unit and the local Beat Team, rolled out the latest deployment Operation Lawmaker across Crewe.

The deployment of over 20 officers led to the seizure of four illegal e-vehicles (e-bikes and e-scooters) and one car that was being driven without insurance.

Whilst out on the roads, officers also stopped a grey Vauxhall that officers found had not been insured. Further enquiries also revealed that the vehicle had been stolen, leading it to be seized.

Alongside proactively targeting those using illegal vehicles, the Constabulary's own speed camera van was also deployed to two locations across Cheshire East.

Stationed along the A530 Middlewich Road and on Minshull New Road in Leighton, the van captured 33 drivers exceeding the speed limit of 30 miles per hour.

One driver was also observed travelling at 42mph on Minshull New Road, directly outside Leighton Academy.

Police Constable, Colin Charlesworth, of the Eastern Problem-Solving Team, said: "We organised this operation alongside the local Neighbourhood Beat Team to target the illegal use of e-bikes and e-scooters that we know have been causing a nuisance across the town.

"This operation also utilised the efforts of our designated speed camera van, which captured over 30 motorists exceeding the speed limits by considerable margins in 30 zones and even outside of a school.

"This is something we will not tolerate, and those drivers can soon expect a letter through their doors notifying them of their offences.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the officers on the roads and in the air for their efforts during this most recent deployment."
