A shop chain with just one branch left in Crewe is planning to extend its weekly trading hours in the town, opening earlier and closing later.

On Tuesday 14 May, A.F. Blakemore & Son Ltd submitted a premises licence application on behalf of SPAR Crewe, Rope Lane, Wistaston.

Blakemore Retail, which owns over 260 SPAR stores across England and Wales, seeks permission to amend its current opening and licencing hours in Crewe.

Currently, SPAR Crewe is open from 7am to 10pm, Monday to Saturday, and 6am to 10pm every Sunday (Jamie Dobbs).

It wants its Crewe SPAR shop to open and be able to serve alcohol from 6am to 11pm, Monday to Friday, as well as 7am to 11pm at weekends.

Currently, SPAR Crewe is open from 7am to 10pm, Monday to Saturday, and 6am to 10pm every Sunday.

The licensing application is on display at the Crewe shop, relocated close to Rope Lane's junction with Crewe Road.

The premises license application reads: "Notice is hereby given that we, A.F. Blakemore & Son Ltd, trading as Blakemore Retail, have applied on 14 May 2024, to Cheshire East Council in respect of the premises known as SPAR, 2A Rope :ane, Wistaston, Crewe.

"This is for a variation of the Premises Licence in order to amend the current opening and licensing hours to enable the sale/supply of alcohol.

This would take place between 6am and 11pm, Monday to Friday and 7am and 11pm on Saturday and Sunday."

Blakemore Retail, which owns over 260 SPAR stores across England and Wales, seeks permission to amend its current opening and licencing hours in Crewe (Google).

Representations to Blakemore Retail's application shall be made in writing to Cheshire East Council Licensing Section on or before Wednesday 12 June.
