A REMEMBRANCE cascade with silhouetted soldiers has been installed in Wistaston.
The Ribbon of Poppies, which stands at over 70ft tall, has been set up by the 35th South West Cheshire (Wistaston) Scout Group close to the Wistaston and Rope War Memorial at St Mary's Church on Church Lane.
It is made up of over 5,000 plastic bottle ends, donated by Scouts and members of the public, which have all been painted red before being attached onto metal wire mesh.
Local companies generously supplied materials, including Aerosol Solutions, who donated twelve litres worth of spray paint, and Buildbase in Nantwich, who supplied the metal wire mesh.
The display has taken over 450 working hours to complete by Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Leaders.
This is the third consecutive year the Wistaston Scout Group have produced the outdoor Remembrance installation. This year's will be on display for three weeks until November 21.
John Bennett, Group Scout Leader of the Scout group, said: "The project has been 10 months in the making and has taken an enormous effort by everyone involved to get us to the finished article.
"Every member of the group, young and old has in some way been involved and the result is there for all to see. Special thanks must go scout leader Tom Austin, who has been influential in leading the project."
The Rev. Mike Turnbull, of St Mary's Church, Wistaston, said: "The Ribbon of Poppies is a fantastic installation and will certainly help the local community to remember those who have given their lives in the service of our country."
An outdoor Remembrance Sunday Service takes place in Wistaston on November 14 from 3pm.
The Service will begin in front of Wistaston Memorial Hall and proceed on foot along Church Lane to St. Mary's Church.
The route is adorned with large poppy heads attached to roadside posts and was set up by Wistaston Parish Council.
Diane Edge-Robinson, vice-chair of Wistaston Memorial Hall committee, said: "As we remember those that are lost, we also realise how lucky we are to have so many people who love and care for their community of Wistaston and Rope."
2021 is also the Royal British Legion's 100-year anniversary and the Scout group want to use their display to raise money, setting a fund-raising target of £1,000.
