Huge redevelopment of Crewe sports arena to be completed by spring 2026

The Cumberland Arena, which already plays host to seven-a-side and 11-a-side football teams on its 3G artificial pitch, will be getting a significant upgrade thanks to funding from the Towns Fund.
This project, led by Everybody Health & Leisure and Cheshire East Council, will see a number of improvements to the Cumberland Arena sports facilities.
Part of the existing arena building will be demolished and a new two-storey extension built to provide a reception area.

Three new multi-functional studio spaces will be built for classes and targeted health programmes. There will also be significantly improved facilities for spectators, including covered seating.
Extra car parking will be created, with a new electricity sub-station, storage compound and electric vehicle charging points provided.
Access for pedestrians and cyclists will also be improved, with a new pedestrian entrance and bike shelters included in the works.
Chair of Cheshire East Council's economy and growth committee, Cllr Michael Gorman, said: "It is great to see these works get under way and I know that there are many sports fans in the borough, particularly athletics lovers, who will be delighted to hear this news."
The redevelopment works at Cumberland Arena are due to complete in spring 2026.
Operations director for Everybody Health & Leisure, Dominic Crisp, said: "These works to improve the facilities at the Cumberland Arena are a great step towards improving community access to facilities and services in the Crewe area.
"We hope to use the new and improved spaces to deliver targeted health programmes and host community classes and initiatives that will benefit those most in need.

"These improvements will also mean an enhanced experience at the Cumberland Arena for all of our clubs and current users."
Vice chair of Crewe Town Board, Simon Yates, added: "We are in a healthy position with the number of live Towns Fund regeneration projects that are moving in a positive direction at the moment, and this is another forward step.
"This project will clearly encourage an improved uptake of physical activity in Crewe, which in turn has the natural positive knock-on effect of seeing an improvement in public health."
