Rail House 'revival' to deliver 150 new homes in Crewe
By Ryan Parker 28th May 2026
A major regeneration project in Crewe South is moving forward, after developers unveiled plans to transform the former Rail House office block into a modern residential hub.
The landmark building on Gresty Road, recently highlighted by Design Studio Architects on Instagram, looks set to become a 13-storey apartment development delivering 150 new homes.
In the social media post, the Leicester-based architects said: "Rail House is more than just a renovation, it's a landmark revival.
"Located in a prime commuter spot in Crewe, this 13-storey development is delivering 150 new homes to the area.
"Because this is a Higher-Risk Building (HRB), our team has focused heavily on the 'Golden Thread' of safety and compliance.

"We've repurposed this former office block into a high-spec residential hub that doesn't just look great, it's built to the highest safety benchmarks."
Built in 1967, the 13-storey structure, in-between Crewe Railway Station and Crewe Alexandra FC, was originally used as the central office for the London Midland Region of British Railways.
Prior approval to convert the Crewe South building into 168 apartments was given by Cheshire East over five years ago, although that permission has since expired.
Since then, all floors of Rail House, except for the ground floor, have been extensively stripped back in preparation for redevelopment works.
