Post Office has confirmed talks with retailers are 'progressing' for two new Crewe locations - replacing the 2023 closures of two branches.

This February, WHSmith confirmed it will be permanently closing down its Victoria Centre store on Thursday 30 March, 2023 - with the Post Office.

The major British retailer said it is now unable to trade 'viably' from this Crewe location - closing the store at its next lease expiry.

McColl's convenience store with Post Office, Coleridge Way, has already permanently closed down - serving its last customer on Thursday 12 January.

On Monday (February 20), Post Office confirmed to Nub News talks with retailers were 'progressing' for the replacement of both facilities.

A Post Office spokesperson said: "Crewe Town Post Office closes on Thursday 30 March at 5.30pm, due to the WHSmith store, where the branch is based, is closing.

"We know how important a Post Office is to a community.

McColl's convenience store with Post Office, Coleridge Way, has already permanently closed down - serving its last customer on Thursday 12 January (Ryan Parker).

"Our field team has been busy speaking to retailers in Crewe and we have interested retailers for Crewe Town and Hungerford Road, Crewe, branch.

"Hungerford Road closed in January due to the closure of the McColl's store which operated that branch on Coleridge Way.

"Talks with retailers are progressing."

Last month (January), Ryman, Victoria Centre, confirmed it wanted move the Post Office into its own store - located within the same shopping area.

Ryman, Victoria Centre, has expressed interest in taking on Crewe Town Post Office (Ryan Parker).

The stationery retailer, who's HQ is based in Crewe, said it has no plans to relocate to a larger unit but wants to help the town keep its local services.

Post Office has apologised to its Crewe customers affected by the Coleridge Way closure and imminent Victoria Centre closure.

The spokesperson added: "We are working hard to keep any closures to a minimum.

"We apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused.

"Alternative branches in the area currently include West Street, North Street, Rope Lane, Haslington and Readesdale."
