A popular Crewe town centre event already rescheduled for 2023 has been cancelled by Crewe Town Council - due to rising costs.

Lumen Festival of Lights, delivered by Crewe Town Council, will not take place in February 2023 as originally planned.

The Festival was scheduled to take place on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 February - at various locations across the town centre.

On Tuesday (January 10), Lumen was debated by the Crewe Town Council's Marketing and Events Committee - ultimately deciding to cancel it (Peter Robinson).

In November, it was agreed Lumen would separate from the Crewe Christmas Lights Switch On - being pushed back to February 2023.

On Tuesday (January 10), Lumen was debated by the Crewe Town Council's Marketing and Events Committee - ultimately deciding to cancel it.

Crewe Town Council said it has a responsibility to ensure all events are value for money.

Coupled with the need to offer a high-quality event, the council has resulted in the decision to cancel Lumen.

This is in light of the current energy and cost of living crises.

Chair of the Marketing and Events Committee, Cllr Joe Cosby, confirmed the cancellation of Lumen 2023.

Crewe Town Council said it has a responsibility to ensure all events are value for money (Peter Robinson).

He said: "As the Committee recognises, costs had increased and the event could not demonstrate good value for money or viability.

"As a result, the decision was made to focus on other activities and working with the community to find alternative deliverable and sustainable events for Crewe."
