Cheshire Police officers have determined the cause of a 'loud bang' heard in Crewe - mistaken to have been from an air rifle.

The loud bang in the Gresty Greenway area of Crewe happened at approximately 10pm on Monday (January 2).

A Crewe resident posted the incident on social media - thinking the noise had come from an air rifle.

Cheshire Police were called to the area and discovered the noise came from an exploding aerosol.

The aerosol was accidentally put on to a garden fire at an address on Brookside Green.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

Today (January 3), Cheshire Constabulary confirmed the incident to Nub News.

"At 10pm on Monday (January 2), police were made aware of a loud bang noise in the Gresty Greenway area of Crewe.

A Crewe resident posted the incident on social media after hearing the loud bang - believing the noise to have come from an air rifle (Cheshire Police).

"It was subsequently established that the noise was cause by an aerosol which had exploded after being accidentally put onto a garden fire at an address on Brookside Green.

"There were no injuries."
