By Gwyn Griffiths 28th Jan 2022

POLICE have stepped up patrols in Crewe after alleged incidents involving women being followed in the town centre.

Cheshire Police say they have arrested a man this week and he is helping them with their enquiries.

Inspector Andy Smith said: "We will continue to increase patrols in the area to provide reassurance, and we do take this type of behaviour seriously and will make every effort to identify those responsible."

Between December 23 last year and January 24 this year officers have received five reports of a man "appearing to follow women" in the town centre.

Insp. Smith added: "The recent incidents have obviously caused concern among residents and we have been making a number enquiries to identify the suspect."

Police say they arrested a 35-year-old man on Tuesday (January 25) on suspicion of stalking and he has since been bailed pending further enquiries.
