Crewe is in for a treat this February as words, wit and well-crafted beer come together for a lively midweek evening at Tom's Tap and Brewhouse, with admission free.

Local poet, David Vernon, will take to the stage on Wednesday 25 February from 7pm, promising laughs, sharp observations and plenty of personality.

David, 55, of Wistaston, will perform a selection of his poetry at the award-winning independent microbrewery on Thomas Street.

Known for its warm community atmosphere and ever-changing range of house-brewed beers, artisan ciders and spirits, Tom's Tap has been a go-to venue since it was founded in 2018 by Sean and Jacqui Ayling.

Described as one of Britain's freshest and funniest new voices in poetry, David has been winning over audiences with his colourful and risqué take on everyday life.

Last year saw the release of his debut poetry collection, Sauce, a 236-page celebration of topics ranging from Greggs addiction and laundrette lust to celebrity pets and dietary disasters.

Packed with sharp humour and trademark self-deprecation, the book will be available to buy on the night.

Written over three years, across seven countries and inspired by more than 50 towns and cities, Sauce was published by Martian Red and is available in paperback and Kindle for £9.99 from the Nantwich Book Shop & Coffee Lounge, as well as online via Amazon and Waterstones.

David told Nub News: "If you like poetry that doesn't take itself too seriously, served with a decent pint then this is the night for you.

"I write to entertain everyone including those who don't like poetry. Come along, have a drink, and let's all pretend we're being cultural."
