Plans have been submitted to demolish a Crewe petrol station car wash - replacing it with an electric charging zone and jet wash bays.

On Tuesday (January 3), Motor Fuel Group applied to demolish the car wash at Shell Service Station, Bradfield Road - replacing it with contemporary car facilities.

It proposes a new electric vehicle charging zone with six EV charging bays, a canopy, sub-station, three jet wash bays and associated forecourt works.

An electric vehicle charging zone with six EV charging bays, a canopy, sub-station, three jet wash bays have been proposed (Cheshire East Planning).

Shell's existing grass island and kerbs from Bradfield Road would be demolished.

Trees and shrubs located around the current car wash site would also be removed.

Two of the three proposed jet washes will be covered with the other open.

Four LED strips will be installed in each covered canopy to achieve 100 lux of lighting on each bay.

LED down lights will also be fitted on each EV charger bay - achieving the same level of light.

Each EV bay roof will be covered in 10mm of toughened glass.

Motor Fuel Group is the UK's largest independent forecourt operator with over 900 sites.

It is currently looking to roll out an 'extensive supply' of EV charging facilities at new and existing service stations (including Crewe) across the UK.

A cover letter submitted to Cheshire Eats Council, reads: "The UK Government have placed a new emphasis on electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the UK.

"As part of this drive, it is essential there is a comprehensive and completive EV charging network in place.

"Forecasts suggest at least 280,000 to 480,000 public chargers will be needed by 2030 - more than 10 times the current number (around 25,000)."

The last date for submitting comments is Tuesday 31 January. A target decision date is Tuesday 28 February.
