Plans for up to 320 homes off Crewe's A534 Haslington Bypass

Plans have been submitted for up to 320 homes off the Haslington Bypass in Crewe, with the developer saying another 100 are in the pipeline for an adjacent site.

Seddon Homes has submitted an outline application, seeking permission to build up to 320 homes in the open countryside on land off the A534 and Bradley Hall Road.

A planning statement from WSP on behalf of Seddon says "The outline application site extends to circa 18.9 hectares, comprising of agricultural fields and existing farm dwellings.

Significant areas of new public open space are proposed including children's play space and pockets of amenity space connected by a network of green corridors and footpaths around the site (CEC Planning).

"It is anticipated that the site could accommodate circa 320 dwellings, including policy compliant provision of 30 per cent affordable housing.

"Significant areas of new public open space are proposed including children's play space and pockets of amenity space connected by a network of green corridors and footpaths around the site.

"SuDS (sustainable drainage systems) are also proposed alongside new tree and hedge planting, to provide an attractive landscape for future residents and to increase biodiversity opportunities."

The site is in the strategic green gap and open countryside between Crewe and Haslington.

The developer says as well as boosting the housing supply at a time when there is a national crisis and Cheshire East doesn't have a five-year supply of housing land, the scheme will also

  • Provide 30 per cent affordable housing on site in response to the acute and worsening affordability issues;
  • Contribute to Cheshire East's local economy by providing high quality homes in a sustainable location;
  • Secure environmental benefits in the form of biodiversity net gain on site, which exceeds mandatory 10 per cent requirements;
  • Introduce comprehensive SuDS features

The site is in the strategic green gap and open countryside between Crewe and Haslington (CEC Planning).

The application is in outline form only, so issues such as layout and design as well as access will be determined at the future reserved matters stage, if outline permission is granted.

With regard to the forthcoming separate application for up to 100 homes, the planning document from the applicant says: "Although separate applications are being submitted, the application sites are located adjacent to each other, east of Crewe, on land to the east of Sydney Road, west of the A534 and south of Bradeley Hall Road."

The 100-home proposal will seek full planning permission. The last date for submitting comments is Thursday 6 November.

The proposed housing adjacent to Sydney Road and Haslington By Pass is not a necessity this area is already congested with poor facilities. It is also one of the remaining green area I,n that area. I have lived in the area for over 50 years we are not a major city!!
