New Crewe town centre burger and pizza restaurant plans approved

Plans have have been given the green light for a new burger restaurant in Crewe town centre, despite an objection from a local competitor.
Applicant, Mr. Sags Ulhaq, of Smash On Ltd, plans to convert the old Topshop, Queensway into a hot food outlet for eat-in and takeaway.
Most recently occupied by 'Brands Direct,' the applicant will open 'Smash On Trent' and 'Barney's Detroit-Style Pizza' with ground floor and first floor customer seating and toilets.

Kitchen and food preparation areas, cold stores, chillers, staff rooms and customer serving areas will be located on both floors.
Staff toilets will be located on the first floor, with a store room located on the ground floor.
An extraction unit will also be constructed, along with two illuminated signs at the front of the unit.
Smash-on-Trent will serve a variety of smash burgers and oven-baked foods such as pizza, and wedges, alongside complimentary desserts such as milkshakes and cakes.
The new Queensway eatery plans to open 8am to 11pm, seven days a week.
Its plans received one objection, a local eatery, saying it will suffer a "loss or trade due to competition."
This March, a Cheshire East planning officer was satisfied with the proposals, saying: "From the sites history and details provided within the application form, it was most recently used in connection to a fashion retail business.

"It is noted the site does not reside within the 'hot food take away restriction zone' in Crewe.
"The proposals set to change the use of the unit to a Sui generis hot food outlet, for the sale of food and drink for the consumption on and off the premises.
"Whilst the proposals would result in the loss of a retail unit, there would be no net loss of a main town centre use.
"Overall, it is considered that the proposed change of use would be acceptable in principle."
