Plans to alter the look of a shop front in the West End of town have been withdrawn - following objections from a Crewe resident and Crewe Town Council.

In December last year, plans were submitted by a Mr Mariwan Salih to install three roller shutters to a shop front, incorporating a covered roof on West Street, Crewe.

The proposal was also for relocating the signage at the frontage of the shop. It would have been moved approximately 1.5 metres further out towards the pavement and road.

The Crewe resident, who lives on Richard Moon Street, objected to the proposals, saying: "More ugly shutters will make West Street look even more like Dodge City. It used to be a nice neighbourhood and shopping street, but not anymore.

"Edleston Road is now catching this area up with buckets and all sorts piled on the pavements, not to mention parked cars."

Plans were submitted by Mr Salih for work on the Zabka Polski Sklep Off License, 191 West Street and 2 Oxford Street.

The Crewe resident added: "On this particular application, it should be rejected on principle as the applicant can not even fill in the address on the form correctly."

Plans were also submitted to elevate the front and side of the off license store.

The Crewe resident was unhappy the planning applicant didn't fill out the site address details correctly (Cheshire East Planning).

Crewe Town Clerk, Pete Turner, commented on the planning application: "The Council objects to the proposal as it builds forward of the development line in to the public realm.

"In doing so, it will adversely affect the visual amenity of the area and provide incongruous building frontage that cannot be read in context of the surrounding architecture."

The target decision date for the plans was today (April 22) - it was also withdrawn by Mr Salih on this date.
