Person treated for smoke inhalation after garden fire spreads to commercial building and flats

A person has been treated for smoke inhalation after an out-of-control garden fire spread to a nearby commercial building with flats above it near Crewe.

On Monday 16 June, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to an incident on Newcastle Road, Shavington.

At 1am, two fire engines from Crewe and one from Nantwich arrived at the scene, discovering a blaze that was growing in size.

South Cheshire firefighters used two hose reel jets and a safety jet to extinguish the flmaes.

The Shavington fire is not believed to be suspicious, with no serious injuries sustained (Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service).

Everyone inside the buildings were accounted for, with paramedics treating an individual at the scene.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Crews were called to a fire that began in a garden and spread to a nearby commercial building, which had flats on the first floor, in Shavington.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets and a safety jet to tackle and extinguish the blaze.

"All persons were accounted for, and one casualty was treated by paramedics on scene for smoke inhalation.

"Firefighters cut away areas of the building to prevent further fire spread and used two hose reel jets to cool any hotspots.

"A high-pressure fan was used to clear smoke from the properties."
