Panto performances cancelled this year at Crewe's Lyceum Theatre due to coronavirus restrictions

Crewe's Lyceum Theatre has announced that this year's pantomime will not go ahead due to coronavirus restrictions.

Performances will be suspended until February at the earliest, the theatre explained through a statement.

A spokesperson explained: "We have explored all options to continue with our autumn programme, but unfortunately it is just not viable to present full shows-with all that involves- whilst social distancing measures remain in place."

This year's show was set to feature panto legends Cannon and Ball perform in Sleeping Beauty.

The decision to suspend shows was influenced by the culture secretary saying that further relaxations would not take place until November at the earliest.

Ticket-holders have been asked to retain them for any rescheduled shows. "Doing this is the best way to support us through to reopening," the spokesperson said.

Theatre staff who are still working will be contacting ticket-holders over in the coming weeks via email.

The spokesperson added: "Panto 2021 will be brighter, funnier and more spectacular than ever before. After 2020 we're all going to need it. We look forward to welcoming you back soon."
