Off-license shop chain speaks out after three stores permanently close in Crewe
An off-license retailer has said it is "purely coincidence" three of its stores have recently closed down in Crewe, with one shutting this December.
Bargain Booze, Kings Drive, Wistaston, closed its doors for good on Friday 15 December, with the shop fully cleared out the day after.
This closure comes after Bargain Booze closed its Gresty Road and Hungerford Road stores earlier this year.
Bargain Booze has since confirmed the three stores, which were run by independent retailers under franchisee agreements, had closed recently for different reasons.
The closure of the Gresty Road outlet has been confirmed as due to 'the retirement of the retailer.'
Company-owned stores on Hungerford Road and Kings Drive, are both confirmed as being due to 'continuing underperformance.'
A Bargain Booze spokesperson told Nub News: "We have no plans to close more stores at this stage.
"It is purely coincidence the three independent retailers have closed their doors within just months of each other.
"Bargain Booze remains a much-loved household brand.
"Our nationwide network of stores are enjoying strong trading conditions over the festive period."
Bargain Booze, which previously had its headquarters based on Weston Road, Crewe, was founded in Sandbach in 1981.
The UK's largest off-license chain is strongest in the North West and has around 390 franchises.
Bargain Booze continues to operate stores on West Street, Waterloo Road, Haslington and Main Road, Shavington.
