Plans for a new supported housing development in Crewe have been given the green light, at the site of an up and running car rental business.
On Friday 3 May, Cheshire East Council approved proposals for a two-storey apartment block of 10 flats and a pair of semi-detached bungalows at Afford Rent A Car, Wistaston Road.
This 12-home development from The Issa Group is to be used as a specialised supported housing scheme.
Tenants at the site will be adults living independently, but with staff regularly visiting.
The scheme has been designed with the specific client needs in mind, with all homes to have one-bedroom.
A design and access statement, submitted by NC Architecture on behalf of The Issa Group, reads: "The proposal is for 10 flats plus two bungalows.
"This is likely to be a mix of dual diagnosis and complex needs in the bungalows and ground floor flats plus the potential for a more moderate cohort in the first floor flats.
"The design of the bungalows are likely to be bespoke to enable options for very complex cases who may struggle to live directly with others in the same building."
The new housing development will be split over two levels. The lower site will be accessed via Wistaston Road, with the upper area off Lewis Street.
There will be staff at the premises every day, with some working with residents on a one-to-one basis, and others on a two-to-one basis.
A Cheshire East planning officer said: "The proposal would result in the loss of the existing employment, however this was deemed acceptable under the previous approval.
"The application would comply with the relevant policies of the Development Plan as a whole and is recommended for approval."
The supported housing scheme includes 10 parking bays and storage for seven bikes.
Both bungalows will have private garden areas, with all residents of the apartments having access to a shared area of open space, located centrally within the site.
Afford Rent A Car told Nub News it was currently unsure of its next steps.
