Updated plans have been submitted for a large new surgical centre in Crewe town centre, delayed for over three years.

Applicant, Mr Karim Hussain, of Karim Holdings Ltd, has applied to refurbish 20, 22 and 22A Market Street to consolidate the units into single use as a 'Cheshire Surgical Centre' day surgery.

Mr Hussain also proposes to construct a two-storey upwards extension, an additional floor on the one-storey extension approved in 2022.

The proposed medical centre will consist of two modern operating theatres, including one theatre equipped with X-ray imaging capabilities, and treatment and consultation rooms.

It will also include recovery bays for post-operative care and clinical support spaces in line with current CQC and HTM requirements.

The new Cheshire Surgical Centre will result in the closure of Belle Mani hair and beauty salon (22 Market Street) as its lease expires, with Ivory of Cheshire bridal shop (20 Market Street) already closed (Photo: CEC Planning).

This development will result in the closure of Belle Mani hair and beauty salon (22 Market Street) as its lease expires, with Ivory of Cheshire bridal shop (20 Market Street) already closed after relocating to Winsford.

A design and access statement reads: "The consolidated building is proposed for use as a surgical centre for East Cheshire, named Cheshire Surgical Centre and will help to alleviate the current burden on NHS services through the execution of day-surgeries.

"The proposed centre is strategically designed to complement NHS services by reducing surgical wait times for patients in East Cheshire.

"It will alleviate pressure on local hospitals through a streamlined day-case surgery model, offering timely access to diagnostic and minor surgical procedures in a community setting.

"The proposal seeks to maintain the use Class E for the site, but consolidate the three buildings for a single use that would be beneficial to the local area.

"While it is understood approximately eight full-time retail jobs would be removed, the proposal would introduce a minimum of 12 full-time jobs.

"While some of these may be specialist, some will be lower skilled and have the opportunity for training and apprenticeships.

"This proposed centre will provide a vital healthcare resource for East Cheshire, enabling more patients to be treated more quickly, closer to home, and in a safe, modern, and efficient environment.

"Approval of this planning application is essential to ensure that we can meet the growing health needs of the community and maintain service continuity—even in the face of public health emergencies."

Fully agree with you on comments from the NHS.👍

According to Companies House, the company is owned by a man who is a doctor, the GMC register has two of similar names and BOTH are on their Specialist's Register so have signficant skills. He has also set up CHESHIRE SURGICAL CENTRE LTD which suggests the building will be owned by the company named in the application and the second company will do the medical stuff and rent from the first ( the pharmacy shown on the picture will presumably be one the chains and also rent). So I'm much more confident aboutthis going ahead than the M&S project.

However, the type of service remains to be seen. Rather than taking strain off NHS I suspect it could be the sort of stuff that NHS doesn't offer, like cosmetic surgery. The application shows that Crewe Town Council have already queried vehicle access (and the bins). I would like to see a comment from NHS to the planning application.

It all looks good on paper.
What type of surgery will be carried out.
Will it be ENT (Ear Nose and throat).
Will it be plastic surgery.
Will it be family planning surgery IE
Sterilisation.
Will they be doing cataract operations.
Will it be taking on NHS patients or just private patients.
What about parking if a patient has had an operation, concern about picking up a patient especially if in discomfort.
To me this doesn't seem to add up especially when they say about apprenticeships,
People in this type of business tend to have deplomas and letters to their name not NVQ.
